The ultimate packing list for the holiday home

The ultimate packing list for the holiday home

You're in the car on your way to the holiday home and suddenly you feel like you've forgotten something. We've all been there, and probably more than once. Not to worry though, we've got the solution, and have come up with the ultimate holiday packing list.

Of course, the checklist differs between your own holiday home and one you rent. This packing list takes into account that it is a rented holiday home, but of course you can still use it as inspiration in other cases.

Before leaving home

It's not just important to keep track of the things you need to pack in your car. You should also go through or check your home so that you can go on holiday with peace of mind. Here are some of the most important points:

  • Lock windows and doors
  • Lock garage and garden shed
  • Turn off electrical appliances at the socket
  • Activate the alarm
  • Turn off the heating
  • Sort out the fridge
  • Empty the bin
  • Set a timer for the lights/keep them turned off

For the trip

Some of the items on our packing list are more or less necessary, while others depend more on your own needs. Of course, the time of year also plays a role, so you can adjust it to your preferences.

To make it a little more organised, we've divided your holiday home packing list into categories to make it a little more straightforward when you're getting ready to set off. That way, you can also divide up the packing into chunks if you don't want to do it all in one go.

For the holiday home in general

For the kitchen

Most holiday homes will already have kitchen equipment in the form of cutlery, glasses, pots and pans, but below you'll find a list of things that are always nice to have in the kitchen:

  • Cloth
  • Wipes
  • Dishwashing detergent/dishwasher tablets
  • Washing up brush
  • Freezer bags and garbage bags
  • Tin foil and baking paper
  • Kitchen roll
  • Coffee filters
  • Spices
  • Coffee and tea
  • Miscellaneous food
  • Oven mit
  • Grill and charcoal/gas
  • Cleaning materials (especially if you have to clean before departure)

For the bathroom

The bathroom will rarely have some of the things you need, so it will be a shame if you leave home without the most common items:

  • Towels
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Hand soap
  • Toilet paper
  • Personal care (deodorant, body lotion, etc.)
  • Nail clippers and nail file
  • Shampoo, conditioner and other items for the bath
  • Wet wipes
  • First aid kit
  • Any medication

For the bedroom

In many holiday homes you will already find duvets and pillows, but in addition it may be a good idea to pack the following:

For the little ones

If you have small children coming to your holiday home, it is of course important to have all the practical things in place. We therefore think that your packing list for the holiday home with children should at least consist of the following:

  • Handkerchiefs
  • Fabric nappies
  • Pushchair/stroller
  • Baby alarm
  • High chair
  • Cot
  • Teddy and dummy
  • Bedding
  • Changing bag with nappies and equipment
  • Toys

For the entertainment

For most people, a summer holiday is about fun and socialising, whatever the season or whether you're going with family or friends. It can therefore be particularly useful to pack for different activities and entertainment from home:

  • Board games and card games
  • Outdoor games
  • Puzzles
  • Books
  • Mobile phone, tablet and computer incl. charger

Depending on the season

For the beach

If you're going away for the summer, we've made a special holiday home packing list to make sure you have all the essentials for the beach:

  • Swimwear
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Bathing equipment (armbands, waist belt, etc.)
  • Beach umbrella
  • Mosquito spray
  • Beach towel

For the wet and cold times

There's also something special about going to a holiday home in the winter. Go for a long walk on the beach or in the woods and then come home and light up the fire place. However, it's definitely more fun if you have the essentials with you:

  • Rainwear
  • Umbrella
  • Rubber boots
  • Winter clothes

Everything else

Finally, there are all those things that can't be put into categories, but are not necessarily less important:

  • Burning and ignition for fire place
  • Flame candles and matches/lighters
  • Slippers
  • Notepad and pen
  • Backpack
  • Torch

Hopefully, this packing list will help you prepare for your holiday. A good holiday usually starts with an organised packing list so you don't forget the essentials.

This is not to say that the list is complete. You might need some specific things yourself, like medicine, or you might be more into audiobooks rather than regular books. In that case, you'll have to adapt it with your own preferences and additions.

Either way, we hope you've found some inspiration for your own packing list, and have a great summer holiday.
